Dictation, recorded for H.H. Bancroft, describes his early life and voyage to San Francisco via Panama in 1856; business activities in San Francisco, mainly sugar refining. (9 l.). Biographical sketch based on dictation, in handwriting of Alfred Bates (7 l.).

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H.
